It’s kind of like a straw that breaks the camel’s 🐫 back scenario. Developing an allergy requires repeated exposure to the allergen, which then puts your immune system on high alert to trigger a response each time it encounters it.

An allergic reaction on the skin that occurs after applying or coming into contact with, a substance, is called a contact allergy or allergic contact dermatitis. This is different from the type of allergy that causes anaphylaxis; it is not life threatening and is classified as a type 4 delayed hypersensitivity reaction. It is called delayed because it usually occurs 48–72 hours after contact.

It wont be the product as a whole causing the allergy, but rather an ingredient within it. Certain ingredients are more likely to cause allergies and people with impaired skin barrier, like eczema patients, are more likely to develop contact allergies.

To most people, allergens are harmless and don’t cause any issues. For those that develop an allergy, it will then be life-long.

If you are worried you may be allergic to something keep a product diary and a dermatologist can perform a patch test (swipe 👉🏽to see pics) where they apply common allergens to your skin and see if you get a reaction.
